I obviously don't take the time to post, but I frequently run across stuff that I like. Interested? Then here's my Google Reader Shared Items. Hm. Maybe I should put a feed in the sidebar, too.
So I'm thinking the other day that I should sit down and write a nice dystopian story, something urban and gritty (or steampunk, maybe?), about a political ruling class who wants to improve the quality of life across the land by systematically eliminating the lower classes and minorities through contraception and abortion, maybe even sterilization. The political class then realizes they could export this strategy to the poorer nations of the world and prevent future wars, thereby setting up a new peaceful empire over which the elites will rule.
If I hold you at gunpoint and take something that belongs to you and keep it for myself (because I've determined that I need it more than you), I am a criminal.
If I hold you at gunpoint and take something that belongs to you and give it to someone else (because I've determined that they need it more than you), I am a compassionate hero.
One of these things is exactly like the other one.
